Aims of NERMS

According to the Decree of the Government No. 275/2002 (XII.21.), the main tasks of the National Environmental Monitoring System (NERMS; in Hungarian: OKSER) are the determination of the radiation burden of the Hungarian Population arising from either natural or artificial sources, and the collection of activity concentrations measured in the environment, including:

Furthermore, NERMS is also responsible to perform the tasks below:

NERMS consists of NERMS Members, which ones are different ministries, authorities and special installations. The activity of NERMS is governed by the NERMS Steerring Commitee. The NERMS Steerring Committe states the annual environmental sampling and measuring program to be performed by the radiological monitoring networks belonging to the NERMS Members. NERMS Information Centre collects and processes the radiological data measured by the individual monitoring networks, and prepares the annual reports about the results.
